Bell applauds federal government's commitment to the mental health of military members, veterans and their families

Nov 24, 2014

MONTRÉAL, Nov. 24, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell Canada today congratulated the federal government on its announcement of a 6-year, $200 million investment in the mental health of members of the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

"Canadian Armed Forces members and their families face particular mental health challenges unique to the circumstances of the lives they live in service of all Canadians," said Mary Deacon, Chair of the Bell Let's Talk mental health initiative. "We commend the work being done by the departments of National Defence and Veterans' Affairs to support the men and women who face mental illness as a result of their service to the country, including this latest commitment of an additional $200 million."

Bell has long partnered with the federal government and the True Patriot Love Foundation to support Canada's military. Continuing a longstanding tradition of sharing expertise dating back to the First World War, Bell is also proud to support Veterans Affairs Canada's Hire a Veteran initiative.

As part of Bell Let's Talk, the 4-year Bell True Patriot Love Fund is distributing $1 million in grants of $5,000 to $25,000 to help fund programs delivering community-based mental health care to military families who need support. Launched in 2013, the Fund has already distributed grants to 32 organizations across the country, many of them Military Family Resource Centres (MFRCs).
