Bell applauds Québec's mental illness awareness campaign

Oct 11, 2011

MONTREAL, Oct. 11, 2011 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell today applauded the Government of Québec's mental illness awareness campaign for 2011. Launched yesterday to mark World Mental Health Day, the Québec campaign aims to increase awareness of and reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness, starting with depression.

"This initiative by Québec demonstrates strong leadership in helping all those who struggle with mental illness," said Martine Turcotte, Bell's Vice Chair, Québec. "As Canada's corporate leader in support of mental health, Bell welcomes Québec's campaign and all other government initiatives aimed at enhancing mental health."

Mental illness is a pervasive but underfunded and misunderstood health care issue. At least 1 in 5 people will experience a form of mental illness at some point in their lives - every one of us has a family member, friend or colleague who will be affected. Bell has made a leading commitment to mental health with the 5-year, $50-million Bell Let's Talk initiative, the largest program ever undertaken by a Canadian corporation in support of mental health.
